Insurance-backed guideline
Research compiled by a major national Dutch insurance company - using 10 years of data from burglarized sites where security fog was installed but losses over €30,000 still occurred - led to a guideline now adopted by many UK insurers:
When a fog generator is used to prevent entry to areas where assets are stored, the fog output should fill the entire room in no more than 10 seconds, achieving a density that reduces visibility to no more than 50 cm.
What this means in practice with Bandit units
- Bandit 240DB: Produces 28 m³ of fog per second at 30 cm density
– Equivalent to 46 m³ per second at 50 cm density.
– Example: A medium retail space of 230 m³ needs only ~5 seconds of activation to reach the recommended volume/density. - Bandit 320: Produces 30 m³ of fog per second at 30 cm density, achieving the target even faster in smaller rooms.
Bottom line
Calculate your room volume and ensure your unit can deliver enough fog to fill that volume within 10 seconds at visibility ≤ 50 cm. The 240DB and 320 both meet this requirement rapidly; use the figures above to size activation time to the space.
Yes. Fog Bandit is highly effective in small areas, and has been proven in practice. For example, over 400 ATM bunker sites operated by a leading ATM provider are protected using Bandit units.
With the smaller Bandit 320, there is now even greater flexibility, thanks to a range of cartridge sizes designed to match the size of the area being secured.
Because Bandit is the only fogging system to use a patented, pre-pressurised cartridge (not a pump-driven system), it provides unique benefits:
- Instant activation: Fog is deployed at full output capacity within 0.1 seconds of detection (28 m³ per second), leaving no time for intruders to smother, divert, or damage the unit.
(By contrast, pump-driven systems can take several seconds to prime, giving intruders opportunities to intervene.) - High efficiency: A 240DB fog cartridge can provide up to 25 activations in small rooms of around 50 m³ if required.
- Long lifespan: Each sealed cartridge lasts 4 years unless fully depleted, with no annual fluid flush-outs (unlike open-fill pump systems).
- Reactivation capability: In small rooms where fog can dissipate more quickly through entry points, Bandit can automatically re-activate on re-detection, ensuring continued protection for environments such as ATMs holding high cash levels.
- Self-diagnostics: Continuous 24/7 system checks instantly report any rare faults so they can be quickly rectified.
Bottom line
Fog Bandit is not only practical in small rooms but also highly cost effective, combining long cartridge life, low maintenance, and the ability to deter and stop intruders instantly.
When activated, the patented Fog Bandit system rapidly heats a special liquid formula and ejects it under high pressure. As it is released, the liquid instantly vaporises into a dense, harmless fog that expands within seconds to fill the protected area, blocking visibility and forcing intruders to abandon their attempt.
Yes, the Fog Bandit is completely safe and leaves no residue. In nearly 20 years of use, there has never been a single claim relating to health, residue, or contamination issues.
Why it’s safe
- Just 1 millilitre of fog fluid (a mix of water and food-grade glycol) generates 1,000 litres of fog.
- The concentration is so low that the fog has been certified by an official testing laboratory as fully compliant with European Indoor Air Quality Regulations.
- It is harmless, safe to breathe, and suitable for use in occupied environments.
How it works
- The Bandit converts 28 millilitres of fluid per second into 28 cubic metres (28,000 litres) of fog.
- Fog density reduces eye-to-object visibility to less than 30 cm.
- For example: in a 280 m³ room, the system would run for 10 seconds to completely fill the space.
Proven in sensitive environments
Fog Bandit has been widely used in locations where protection is critical and zero contamination is acceptable, including:
- Mainframe servers and fibre-optic systems
- Pharmacies
- Antique and jewellery shops (precious metals and stones)
- Luxury fashion retailers such as Louis Vuitton and Hermès (high-value textiles)
Across all these applications, Fog Bandit has demonstrated no harmful effects and no residue issues.
Bandit 240DB – HY-3 Cartridge Pack
- The HY-3 Cylinder Pack is a clean-filled, hermetically sealed unit.
- Fluid is retained in an oxygen-free, pressurised, pH-stabilised, de-ionised environment, giving it a 4-year maintenance-free lifespan, unless fully depleted earlier.
- A full HY-3 can generate at least 50 seconds of high-density fog (visibility reduced to 25 cm) at 28 m³ per second, with a maximum single activation time of 18 seconds.
- Pre-set activation depends on room size:
- Example: 56 m³ room → 2-second burst (56 ÷ 28 = 2)
- Example: 504 m³ room → 18-second burst (504 ÷ 28 = 18)
- One HY-3 cartridge can provide between 3 and 25 activations before needing replacement.
- An exchange refill service is available via your Bandit dealer.
Bandit 320 – Disposable Cartridges
- Supplied with two sealed cartridges for two separate activations (plus a test cartridge).
- Each cartridge is single-use and must be replaced after activation (simple swap process).
- Cartridge sizes are available for room volumes from 40 to 200 m³.
- Each cartridge has a 4-year lifespan if not used.
Yes. The FOG BANDIT can be configured to operate as a standalone security system, or it can be fully integrated with a conventional intruder alarm. This flexibility ensures protection even if no alarm system is in place.
Yes. The FOG BANDIT is highly versatile and can be configured in several different ways to integrate seamlessly with a wide range of intruder alarm panel signals. This ensures compatibility with virtually all conventional alarm systems.
Yes. The FOG BANDIT can be configured to protect against robbery, burglary, or both. It supports different trigger modes (e.g., panic/button activation for robbery at point-of-sale, or alarm-activated out-of-hours burglary protection), so it can be tailored to your site and risk profile.
Yes. For areas larger than 504 m³, multiple FOG BANDIT units — or a combination of different Bandit models — can be linked together to operate in unison, ensuring complete protection.
Statistics show that most burglaries and robberies are completed within just a few minutes, while police or security response times are typically much longer.
This creates a “window of opportunity” during which intruders can act virtually unhindered. The FOG BANDIT closes that gap by instantly releasing a dense, impenetrable fog the moment an intruder is detected, forcing them to abandon their attempt.
Simply put: what can’t be seen can’t be stolen.
While other systems use pump or aerosol-driven technology, the Bandit’s internationally patented HY-3 high-pressure system (240DB) and disposable cartridge system (320) deliver fog with unique advantages:
